Vision Values
Our vision is fulfilled through programs in the visual and performing arts. Art builds bridges between communities, generations and nationalities. By instilling individuals with a feeling of self-worth and confidence, art encourages positive attitudes and helps people cope with change. Art can be therapeutic. Joseph Brauer
Theatre Artistic Director
Joseph Brauer
Joseph Brauer is a 10-year resident of Southwest Florida, having escaped the frigid winters of Northern Manitoba, Canada, and Fargo, North Dakota. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Arts with a focus in Musical Theatre Performance and a minor in classical music from the Challey School of Music. Joseph discovered his passion for theatre in college after growing up as a competitive classical musician and spending most of high school as a “band geek.” He didn’t waste any time catching up, immediately taking work-study jobs in the costume shop and as a stage technician at the 1,000-seat concert venue on campus. While developing his skills as a musical theatre “triple threat,” he spent summers at the International Music Camp at the International Peace Garden, working with elite young musicians from around the world and arts faculty from top university programs in the U.S. and Canada.
Joseph went on to discover a passion for bringing theatre opportunities to communities across the Midwest while working as a touring actor and director with a Minnesota-based children’s theatre company. He continued working as a children’s theatre director and music director in Fargo before relocating to Southwest Florida in 2016, with a brief detour to New York City to attend Broadway’s Open Jar Institute. Since moving to the area, he has worked with local theatre companies including Florida Rep, Gulfshore Playhouse, and The Naples Players. In addition to his work as a producing artistic director, Joseph has performed as a musician and actor across Florida, including small appearances in television and film, such as The Right Stuff, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio for Disney+/National Geographic, as well as appearances in commercials.
Joseph loves to test the limits of theatre, not only as a performing art, but as a highly visual art form through scenic design and construction, lighting and projection design, foam, wire and paper sculpture, and metalwork. He loves calling Arts Bonita “home” because its creative energy and talent are so contagious, constantly challenging him to push beyond his perceived limitations and embrace non-traditional possibilities for creating magic onstage.
